Austin Wooley

Field Services Supervisor

Austin Wooley joined Balcones Geotechnical 2014 with 10 years of field experience gained from Fugro Consultants, where he was part of many major site investigation campaigns for large infrastructure, transportation, energy, and oil & gas projects both local and abroad. As part of these site investigation campaigns, his skills have included drafting, surveying, logistics coordination, geotechnical drilling, dynamic cone penetration testing, and non-invasive geophysical investigations using ground penetrating radar, electrical resistivity and seismic reflection and refraction testing.

His duties have taken him to assignments such as the Sierra Madre & Chokecherry windfarm in Wyoming, refineries along the Louisiana and Texas Gulf Coast, the Integrated Pipeline Project and DFW Connector in North Texas, as well as the APLNG project in Queensland Australia. It is estimated that Mr. Wooley has provided geotechnical logging of over 10 miles of soil and rock core, while logging many of thousands of miles to access these sometimes remote locations.

He is adept at logging both soil and rock stratigraphy, and is skilled at working out difficult logistics issues to keep difficult projects moving forward. His knowledge of a variety of drilling rig types and drilling equipment, such as pumps, sampling and coring equipment, downhole testing equipment and dynamic cone penetration testing equipment, makes him a valuable site investigation coordinator.

Austin Wooley earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design at the University of Houston. He is also certified by the American Concrete Institute as an ACI Grade 1 Technician.
