Serving both the public and private sectors, Balcones Geotechnical brings extensive knowledge of the complex geology of the Austin and San Antonio region to support civil design and construction projects. Principal John Wooley founded the firm in 2013 following a successful career as an executive and senior technical consultant with Fugro Consultants. The firm’s staff of experts excels at finding solid solutions for projects locally, regionally and statewide. Balcones Geotechnical is certified as an Emerging Small Business Enterprise (ESBE), Small Business Enterprise (SBE) and a Veteran Business Enterprise (VBE). In addition, the firm holds a number of pre-certifications from the Texas Department of Transportation.

Rebecca Russo has more than 24 years’ experience in conducting and managing geotechnical investigations, design and construction phase testing, and forensic engineering projects.  She joined Balcones Geotechnical in 2014 as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, and assumed an ownership role as President in January 2018.

Mr. Mason’s 42 years of experience includes extensive project planning, management, coordination and training of field and laboratory technicians, sampling and logging of geotechnical soil, rock and water specimens, field and laboratory testing of construction materials (soil, concrete, steel and asphalt), and interpretation of laboratory analytical data.
